BELLADRUM’S OVER, DOGSTAR CLASSIC DRAMA RETURNS … …

So it must be nearly Christmas!

Did you do it all? see it all? love it all? are you festivalled out? Even one day and one dream band can be a little bit overwhelming – see my one day Belladrum review. Time to reflect while you are choosing your Christmas cards…

But no, seriously, so much still to come – and up this week is the first date in a monster tour from Highland theatre legends DOGSTAR THEATRE COMPANY, kicking off with The Tailor Of Inverness at Ullapool’s Macphail Centre on September 5. Unfolding war and history – will they have changed Matthew Zajac’s story of his late father’s past, and how the play has affected the playwright and actor’s own life?Touring Scotland, the play returns to EDEN COURT on November 11 and 12, but first up Findhorn Universal Hall (Oct 21), Rosehall Hall (Nov 14), among many.

Summer ending with the continuing joys of Under Canvas at Eden Court. ADAM ROSS and GILLIAN FLEETWOOD plus RACHEL SERMANNI and LOUIS ABBOTT – review here.

Another reminder for a must-see if you like your  bands/local musicians/ in bumper packs. Inverness label supremo and gig promoter IAIN McLAUGHLIN and the IMOUT label live weekender (Oct 23 and 24). Tickets now on sale for the spectacular two-day An Seomar giggery. And 15 of the brightest and best set to perform.

Don’t forget that Inverness singer-songwriter KATIE GREGSON-MACLEOD will release her debut album Albatross on November 6. Time to pre-order.

But we are very much moving – if you can very much move – into the Season Of The Book.

First up, former Charleston pupil CAL FLYN will be talking about her latest book The Savage Landscape which took her across the world to find and try to understand wilderness – from the ocean floor to volcanoes, going in search of Transylvanian brown bears to spending time with Nepal’s Bon people. Cal will be at HighlandLIT on Thursday September 10, tickets with concessions plus info at Eventbrite.

Nairn Book & Arts Festival has returned – guests include Nicola Sturgeon, Douglas Stuart, crime writers Doug Johnstone, Marion Todd – and loads of other events. www.nairnfestival.co.uk

And up at the St Duthac Book & Arts Festival in Tain and the Seaboard villages from September 8-13, comedian Helen Lederer, food writer Sue Lawrence and Inverness-born Broadway theatre director John Doyle among the guests. www.stduthacbookfest.com
