IT’S SUMMER

Footie World Cup and Westminster musical chairs almost the past, roses and festival feel ahead …

Scary to realise that BELLADRUM is just a week away. Time to plan  the ‘must see’ list, find your waterproof jacket, sunscreen, comfy trainers. The music marathon and treasure chest of magical moments is on its way – along with all the usual hopes … you’re really going to see EVERYTHING this year. Potential highlights from The Human League to An Dannsa Dub, James to Razorlight (‘I get over the brr-reaks and I stumble and fall’), and all our local heroes, out of dark wintry venues and into the sunlight! And it’s still plenty of time to plan your perfect Party Animals fancy dress wear.

Lovely to catch local crime writer GR Halliday‘s novel From The Shadows become ITV’s current terrifying thriller The Dark with Inverness DI Monica Kennedy chasing down a masked serial killer. Missed it so far? Still time to catch up – and the whole series of books to get up to speed on too. Just time before the next Halliday plot makes it to TV? Let’s hope so …

It’s not for a while, but you could start working on your stamina for  Inverness rock musician IAIN McLAUGHLIN and his IMOUT label October weekender (Oct 23 and 24). Tickets are now on sale for the spectacular two days at An Seomar with 15 of the brightest local bands/ musicians.  You can also still buy Iain McLaughlin And The Outsiders’ latest album Clarity on Bandcamp.

But there was a momentous earthshaking spectacular on Saturday as part of Eden Court’s continuing 50th birthday celebrations, when three amateur dramatic companies got together for the first time to present ONE NIGHT ONLY! And the combined result was every bit as breathtaking as you could dream. One Night Only! (and one afternoon too!) offered up treats from the musicals, previews of the shows all three companies will be putting on over the next year at the theatre and talent coming at you from all over the place. Read my review of the experience … and my hopes for this joyfully stylish spin on all things musical!
